Job Summary We are looking for an experienced MySQL DBA to manage, optimize, secure, and maintain production MySQL databases. The candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in SQL query optimization, performance tuning, indexing strategies, database architecture, backup and recovery, and high availability. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, manage, and maintain MySQL databases across development, testing, and production environments. Optimize complex SQL queries, joins, subqueries, and stored procedures to improve application performance. Analyze execution plans using EXPLAIN and EXPLAIN ANALYZE to identify performance bottlenecks. Design and optimize indexes, including composite and covering indexes, to minimize query execution time and database resource utilization. Identify and resolve slow queries, full table scans, locking, blocking, deadlocks, and inefficient database access patterns. Monitor and optimize database performance, CPU, memory, disk I/O, connections, and storage utilization. Implement and maintain backup, recovery, replication, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies. Perform database upgrades, migrations, schema changes, capacity planning, and data archiving. Implement database security, access controls, auditing, and data protection best practices. Establish database monitoring, alerting, maintenance, and performance-reporting mechanisms. Troubleshoot critical production incidents and perform root-cause analysis (RCA). Collaborate with developers, architects, and DevOps teams to improve database design and application performance. Automate routine DBA activities using shell scripting, Python, or other suitable tools. Requirements Required Skills Strong hands-on experience with MySQL 8.0+, database administration, and production support. Excellent SQL skills and expertise in query optimization and performance tuning. Strong understanding of indexing strategies, index selectivity, composite indexes, and query execution plans. Experience with MySQL InnoDB internals, transactions, locking, isolation levels, and concurrency management. Expertise in identifying and resolving slow queries, deadlocks, blocking sessions, and resource bottlenecks. Hands-on experience with database backup, point-in-time recovery, replication, and HA/DR configurations. Knowledge of database security, user privileges, encryption, and auditing. Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, performance baselining, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with Linux administration and shell scripting. Experience managing large databases and handling production workloads. Preferred Skills Experience with Azure Database for MySQL, AWS RDS for MySQL, or other managed MySQL services. Knowledge of cloud database migration, cost optimization, and monitoring tools. Experience with Percona Toolkit, MySQL Enterprise tools, or equivalent database diagnostic utilities. Exposure to automation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and database change management. Experience with high-volume transactional applications and 24×7 production environments.
